KPT Vector Effects™ 1.0 Demonstration Version for the Macintosh Read Me
This file contains information that may not be included in the KPT Vector Effects documentation.
To install these demonstration extensions, just be sure that they have been uncompressed (if you acquired them from an online source); then place all the files included here into your Plug-ins folder (if you are using Adobe Illustrator™) or your Xtras folder (if you are using Macromedia FreeHand™). If you are unfamiliar with installation of extensions with your host application, see the documentation provided by either Adobe or Macromedia. Once placed into the appropriate folder, launch your host application and open a document. You will see the KPT Vector Effects Demo extensions in your Filters menu (if you are using Adobe Illustrator™) or your Xtras menu (if you are using Macromedia FreeHand™).
Be sure to use both the Balloon Help and Online Help to get questions answered.
This demonstration version of KPT Vector Effects will allow you to explore all of the KPT extensions at your leisure, enabling you to see all features in action “before you buy.” You will be able to open and run all features within every extension, but your changes will not be applied to your artwork. These new extensions for Macromedia FreeHand™ and Adobe Illustrator™ will expand your creative and production horizons, and enhance your enjoyment of these already powerful host applications. We are very proud to bring you this brand new vector technology, and trust that you will have fun using them for exploration and production alike.
The demonstration package contains 12 extensions plus a bonus thirteenth one, and extensive online help. Follow the installation instructions at the top of this page, and start your explorations....
Notes:
INSTALLATION NOTE FOR FREEHAND USERS:
KPT Vector Effects™ requires a new version of Macromedia's "Illustrator Plug-ins" extension, which will allow Vector Effects to run within FreeHand. This new version of "Illustrator Plug-ins" is included here; you should remove any older versions of the "Illustrator Plug-ins" extension and replace it with the new one provided here. No existing functionality will be impacted by this new Xtra... however, it will allow Vector Effects to run under FreeHand.
FPU:
KPT Vector Effects absolutely requires an FPU to operate if you are using anything less than a Power Macintosh.
Memory:
KPT Vector Effects itself does not require much in the way of RAM... rarely more than 1 MB from the host application's partition. However, the complexity of your artwork will impact the amount of RAM you will need for Vector Effects to run completely and efficiently. If you are having memory-related trouble due to artwork complexity, increase your RAM as needed. A good rule of thumbs is to give your host application as much RAM as you possibly can, and also leave 500k to 1MB available to your system.
If you are not familiar with memory requirements for your host application, please refer to their documentation for more information.
Monitor Bit Depth
Many of you often work in 8-bit mode to enhance system speed; while KPT Vector Effects works just fine in 8-bit mode, the interface is a full 24-bit UI. If you are working in 16- or 8-bit mode, you may notice slight degradations in the UI and slower screen redraw of UI elements.
Beta Users
Be sure to remove ALL beta versions of extensions and hubs from your system to ensure clean operation.
FreeHand™ Users
Vector Effects includes a new version of Macromedia's Illustrator Plug-Ins Xtra. If you find two versions of each extension appearing in your Xtras menu, you will need to remove your old Illustrator Plug-ins Xtra from your Xtras folder to solve the problem.
KPT ShatterBox will not run under FreeHand™.
Working With Patterns And Gradients
KPT Vector Effects does not treat patterns or gradients. The Vector Effects preview window will show these elements as gray, and will leave them unaffected after an effect is applied.
Balloon Help
Balloon Help can be turned off and on directly from within KPT Vector Effects. Do check it out; not only does it contain more substantive information than you may be used to seeing in Balloon Help, it also points you directly to the pages in the manual that are relevant to the features about which you are inquiring.
